Programs that help individuals, organizations, and communities take on their most complex challenges through the arts.

Since 2005, we've worked alongside 2,500 practitioners, 250 organizations and over a dozen communities as they've fostered silo-busting relationships, let go of old assumptions, experimented, and succeeded in making progress. Our rigorously designed and facilitated workshops, coaching, and intensive labs create the space and conditions to test innovative strategies and build cultures that embrace a changing world. Our innovation grants of $2,800,000 have seeded the field with new models and new mindsets.

For Communities

In collaboration with community partners, we co-design local programs that weave dense networks of change-makers, build cohorts that learn together, and support systems change.

For Organizations

Through our coaching, workshops, and Labs, we support arts and social sector organizations as they design and prototype innovation practices and cultivate adaptive capacity that sticks.

For Individuals

We support individual leaders in moving away from traditional models of heroic leadership in order to become skilled, responsive and empowered adaptive leaders.

For the Field

We’re creating a community of practitioners that have the common language, skills, and practices integral to creating an adaptive and resilient nonprofit sector.

With support from EmcArts facilitators, La Jolla Playhouse created Theatre Without Walls (WoW) as an innovative, site-specific initiative designed to remove physical limits of performance venues by immersing audiences in theatrical work in a variety of community settings.
