Jonathan Halsey

Managing Director
A proud native of Sparta, NC, Jonathan currently lives in Winston-Salem, NC. Before taking on the role of Managing Director at EmcArts, he was employed at The Winston-Salem Foundation as director of both the Philanthropic Services and Community Engagement departments. Prior to joining the philanthropic field, he was a project manager for rural community and economic development projects at New River Community Partners in Sparta, NC.

First and foremost, Jonathan considers himself a community builder.  Whether as a grantor, grantee, or volunteer, he has worked to foster collaboration and to encourage forward movement on community-driven solutions over the past 15 years.  Previous and current nonprofit volunteer experience includes terms serving the Alleghany County Chamber of Commerce, the Alleghany County Library, the Alleghany County Community Foundation, New River Conservancy, the SECU Family House, the Winston-Salem Sustainability Resource Center, the ECHO Network, Neighbors for Better Neighborhoods, The Abraham Project, and Rotary Club of Reynolda. He studied music at the UNC School of the Arts, is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, and received his MPA in public management from Appalachian State University.

Jonathan's interests include music, reading, linguistics, arts/culture, travel, exercise, the outdoors, natural resource conservation, and community/economic development. He readily admits that he has an unhealthy passion for all types of country music.
